It feels just like yesterday when the grand curtains of the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) unveiled the great performances from a family of singers. It must be true that when things are running great, time travels fast and it was not until last week when we realized that the Trapp family has been singing songs on the hills, in their mansion, and during the Kaltzberg Festival for one hundred times.
The cast of Resorts World Manila’s (RWM) production of the Sound of Music (SOM) were beaming with smiles after their 2 pm performance last Sunday, March 11. The crowd gave them another round of standing ovation but louder this time as the cast just concluded their 100th show. RWM President Kingson Sian went to the stage and handed the cast their 100 cake to the delight of the crowd.

This milestone officially made this staging of the Sound of Music the longest running Filipino production of a Broadway musical. The 100th show is not even the finale yet. Already on its third extension, we will still be hearing more of “Do Re Mi”, “Few of My Favorite Things”, “Edelweiss” and “So Long, Farewell” for two months more as the play’s run is extended until May 27, 2012.
Part of the audience during SOM’s 100th show were the 100 winners of the Twitter contest. On the eve of the 100th show, Resorts World Manila’s official Twitter account (rwmanila) posted five trivia questions about the Sound of Music with the 50 followers who tweeted back their correct answers winning 2 tickets. One of the winners, John Eric Musni, tweeted: “Sound of Music was a blast! Superb singing and acting! Great visual effects and props! Way to go!
